1999 Harley Davidson FXDX CONV Dyna Convertible – Motorbike Bicycle
1999 Harley Davidson FXDX-CONV Dyna Convertible
CHICAGO, IL February 2, 1999 – Back in 1971 with Willie G. Young Davidson, the first of many clues from the generator custom of the time. He grafted the Sportster front end for an FLH frame. The result was the Super Glide, FX first. ‘F’ stands for FLH, ‘X’ for XLH. The idea is simple – add Sportster handling characteristics for a big twin. An idea that all but lost in the vast landscape of today’s super-rich, super heavy, super-cruisers.

But despite the mantra “a wider and lower is better” than 90-scene-Cruiser, the concept of a versatile car with great handling characteristics, have the fans at 3700 West Juneau Avenue.Bicycle Motor Company called ‘Dyna Glide’ and the most versatile of all is
the Dyna Convertible.
As the name suggests, the famous conversion claim is its ability to change from a stripped-down street car with a back-road tour. It achieves this by using a quick release in full size Lexan glass and removable soft saddlebags. If the deficiency is basically a Dyna Low Rider. When the dress came out, it can be seen as a rough equivalent of the Road King sporty. Optical glass really is a bit grandma-quality accessory for some drivers, but it was a blessing after a few days on the road or when the temperature drops much below 50 degrees. However, we have some sticking points with the wind blocker.
A very large windshield allows the driver to see over them. while deflecting wind over the rider’s head. This disk is large enough for a rider “6’4 and the cut does not seem fun. Our second complaint is obsolete hardware. Four black plastic brackets mount to fork over and over there we have to remain ugly, if you want the ability to quickly secure and release the windshield. If this design tie came in 1989 it was given in order, but with the release of the slick line “removed”, it began to show its age. In other words, it’s time to update the convertible model with detachable windshield.
Detachable pouch is made of durable ballistic nylon. That makes about as strong as leather at a fraction of the weight. Bag opens with zipper, the entire length of both sides and top spread wide. As the soft side bag that allows more than one rigid bag with the same dimensions to withstand, but also causes them waterproof. Them from the rear, the rear is made of hard plastic. Assembly of the bag is to add them to the two posts and then lock it reached with captured screws. The whole business is clad with decorative buckle leather flap that goes to look for pockets of macho.
As the wind protection is not all sunshine and flowers with removable pockets: they have changed since their introduction. As of 1996 Convertible that we have in our garage, one leather cap on ‘99 FXDL, broken in two places. The first thing that is destined to fail the next snap. Snap holds front edge of the cover for the bag. This keeps them from flapping wildly in speed.
With this snap flap missing was exposed to the full force of the wind. What causes the failure of the strengthening ribs of plastic. Ridge runs in the bottom of the door stiffness and help them retain their shape. Broken ribs right where the crossing tie down straps. Two significant improvements immediately come to mind: Make the ribs of the metal and the mechanism continues strong. But six years into the model, we find we are still using fixed design flaws.

1999 Harley Davidson FXDX
Los Angeles, August 20, 1999 – you can not get complacent we are, and no motorcycle company that understands this better than Harley-Davidson. Yes, yes, we can already hear you screaming all sorts of insults and curses on your computer screen protests, which leads from the red-faced rage. But we must do this because we are on the other hand, because we are funny to think they found the fire and receive emails.

There is some truth in there, however. Harley critics as the company’s products are not complacent, but they are made of laurel and citations. But there are differences between each take exclusively on brand identity to sell your goods, a strategy that will always fail as soon as “bigger, better, faster” came (to the lover, seen SyQuest hit when confronted with, Zip drives ), and the development / maintenance of market share through the implementation of design and marketing principles of tradition and past successes withdrawn.
Yawn. Please point. The point is, how do you connect a troubled past into an uncertain future when faced with the difficult to measure the expectations of the millennium?
With FXDX, that’s how. Building the Dyna platform to perform the requirements of multiple external shocks spring for dual-point rubber mounted Twin Cam 88 is, Motor Company in the face of opposition by a stylish car that dealing with authority, while placing some strong flying horses to the pavement.
Twin Cam 88, 1450 cc Evo-Zilla is a revelation in a sporty car platform. Sure, the engine has proven itself capable of transporting a loose Electra Glide, Twin Cam but in the use of a willingness to rev that FXDX make such a fun trip. They are used by you to short shift will be lost if you do not start up redline, characterized mainly by things wavy lines, an area where this car.
In beefing component Twin Cam, Harley made a machine that is very interesting all the way up to 5400 revolutions per minute. Does not look like much, but if you are in the low 3000s on the Evo much space is used to explore the shift.
Wheelbase is a smidge on the sport to 63.88 inches from the standard 62.5-inch Super Glide expanded and add a little more stability, but with a slope of 28 degrees does not Dyna Chopper of the Year candidate. However, Harley’s first choice for the long and winding road, and with good suspension is appropriate workable compromise between luxury and sportiness. It takes little effort to dispose of these animals to the curve, but if that’s good, obedient to hold the line and immersion with a lot of ground clearance curve. Mid-corner can inspire a little rough things Chassis Bump Boogie – not just a “confidence-inspiring”, whatever that means.
Unfortunately, the 1999 Harley FXDX brakes still brake. Improvements in the works for 2000, but the new brakes to be very good, will not be upgraded first, and now you’ve seen on ’99 FXDX when going deep into the hole. End brakers may simply be “too late” if they try too much. For the standard cruising / street duty of 11.5-inch wheels are three better than two, however, and they perform their duties, but did not get in any stoppie contest because you insulted. Functional rear brake and do a good job, but it is a “government” workers. It does not do any more than necessary.
Rider accommodations are sporty, ie they are not too comfortable. Dirt-style bars seem a little far forward and a little too wide on a stock bike – not without reason, but enough so that you extend to one hundred highway miles. Good foot position, though, and highway pegs are standard, so you can stretch your muscles, if you can not escape through the pass. Doing very well mirror, with less vibration than you’d expect in a 45-degree V-twin.
Harley felt generous and gave us two super Glide Sport, bones and teeth Harley with aftermarket cheated. Both are black, and both are very good from all accounts, experts and non-riders alike. This is an area that has been in the Harley-Davidson FXDX different edge and indirectly in the use of style factors.
Surprisingly, not everyone agrees that a highly accessorized FXDX is the best, especially with some significant differences of opinion about the new Harley-quarter panel of the cafe. Really better than Harley’s willingness to adapt, although it does not exist. The whole package of the curve to-fit-your-handles, billet footpegs to the seat custom shows that this is an excellent platform for lean love with love for shiny and adaptation is to incorporate in general. And everyone agrees that darker engine and bike lean, athletic line is good, sexy.
