2008 Harley Davidson Cross Bones – Motorbike Bicycle
2008 Harley Davidson Cross Bones – Motorbike Bicycle
Harley Davidson presents the latest bobber-style Softail this past weekend at the famous Viper Room nightclub on the Sunset Strip. Tie-in to the Hollywood scene is not entirely clear, but a sense of security would be that high to make it known that the Cross Bones want a cool bike. And what better way to go to this picture than impressed to go where all the cool kids. Another problem, they want to hit is that dark scenes, a theme that correlates well with what Harley calls “dark customs.” If you have not seen or been to the Viper Room, the exterior is entirely black with virtually nothing to suggest that there is a nightclub.
It was a scene full of young hipster types (including the embodiment loud, obnoxious people), cunning women, many media and free-flowing alcohol and snacks. Yep, the Cross Bones’ classic Hollywood premiere, and is usually the prime some big names on hand. Large as in the people whose names one half of the names on the bike. Big names such as Willie G. Davidson and son Bill Davidson. When out of El Jefe, you know, it is important to them.
When Willie G. and Bill finally lifted a soft cloth to reveal the bike beneath what we see is a bike that reaches far into the past for inspiration Harley. Cross Bones is a Softail that pays homage to past post-war with a springer front end, bobbed fenders highlighting fat 16 – and 17-inch tires ride a spoked wheels, an adjustable two-position springer solo saddle, ape-hanger bars, paint simple yet elegant and dark or black surfaces on everything from engines to indicators. Heck, there are so many dark components is difficult to keep track of everything, but another great styling cues is a console mounted indicator and idiot lights that remain hidden from plain view, until they are activated. Cool!
As dark cousin of the Nightster, Night Train, Night Rod Special and more recently Bob Street, Cross Bones leaves chrome covers a minimum with only a few engines and exhaust pipes as the shiniest bits on the bike. A few other neat touches include a black face on the tank-mounted console speedometer, nostalgic rounded clean air protection and base plate and hand-laced leather tank trim. And for you fans of the Netherlands, was some “wicked” pin stripping tastes applied to the tank and fenders.
Innovative styling aside, the Cross Bones is a Softail at its core. Thus, using air cooling engine fuel injection the same rigid-mount balanced Twin Cam 96B mill and 6-speed tranny that employs seven other Softails. We hope the single 292mm rotor and solo dual piston calipers are up to the task of slowing Bones’ claimed 737 pounds. Weight in running long enough to bend the 64.5-inch wheelbase through a turn. With 32-degree angle and 6.3-inch footprint, we do not expect this newest Softail to the film to the corner, but when our time on the Rocker C, with its 69.2-inch wheelbase, 38-degree slope and 6, 2 inch Trail reap- out is an indication of how well the 240mm rear tire can handle the car, Cross Bones appear sufficient to consider a narrower 200mm rear rubber.
It looks cool and maybe even uncomfortable at the same time, but the soft leather solo seat that is not the only way for the ivory Kush. Like all Harley softies a pair of horizontally mounted dampers stored away from view, to compete with the fixed gaze of the past, while still providing a forgiving cruise ship.
Speaking of Softails, indicate the number of heads quickly, which consists of the addition of the Cross Bones this line now of eight engines, each in the Harley line-up.
